Bluemaps is a web mashup application that combines Google Maps’ geographical visualization capabilities and your company's business data with operational and analytical information. It provides a better way to visualize the data from your enterprise business systems. It requires minimal impact on existing user practices, business systems or business processes. Bluemaps converts your system into a "location aware business system".
Bluemaps has two key components; A Visualization Engine and a Business Management Engine. The Visualization Engine implements the key functionality of Bluemaps; the visualizations related to business metrics and ability to navigate through them. This component is responsible from all the visualizations, all the user interaction management and makes service calls to the data management engine. The Visualization Engine is provided as a Software as a Service (SaaS) component.
The Business Management Engine is hosted on the client site. This engine provides all the data management and location based business functionality in Bluemaps including the ability to connect to remote business systems to retrieve business data. This engine eliminates the need for any data to be uploaded or stored offsite.
This blending of SaaS model with an onsite deployment, gives the advantage of centralized updates without the need for end-users to download upgrades and also protects private and sensitive business data. Bluemaps is a fully browser based application and makes use of the technologies defined by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). It needs no installations on the client side and can be used with any recent web browser.
